In comparison to Lu Chu’s and Song Gui’s astonishment, Luo Qi and Qian Zhen’s instincts told them that this man was really strong, and that they weren’t his match.
Yuan Kejie, on the other hand, was stunned. Her hand that was moving to close the window was still frozen in place, and she didn’t move as she blinked her eyes and wondered, “this is……”
Luo Qi knew they couldn’t win against him, so she simply placed the shovel back onto her shoulder, then turned to look at Song Gui, “you know him?”
While Luo Qi spoke, Yuan Kejie still went to the window and pulled the shutter down. She then went to shut the window, and lit the candles that they had found earlier. Then, she turned around to Song Gui and said, “this shouldn’t be someone you know…… wasn’t it just the five of us who entered into this group mission?”
Qian Zhen frowned, and kept an eye on 7 as he said, “who are you?”
7 stood up, lifted the old Japanese sword and brought it in front of him, then placed it aside to show that he meant no harm. This ancient sword was simple in shape, and with the handle, it was about eighty centimeters long. Against the candlelight, the slightly curved blade reflected a bright white glow. Lu Chu had heard of these type of ancient Japanese weapons before. It was a type of traditional Japanese sword, and a Tachi1Click here for a more in-depth explanation. was a weapon that was used on the back of the horse. The blade was longer, and it wasn’t as easy to use compared to a regular sword, but it had a wider range of attacks. 7 obviously planned to use it for combat while on the move.
7‘s handsome face seemed even more mysterious under the candlelight, and with the orange candlelight flickering inhis eyes, he looked at everybody and said in a calm tone, “mind one more teammate?”
Song Gui frowned and asked, “you’re not an ‘insider’ from the ‘game’?”
7 put the sword away, and looked at Song Gui, “I’m just like you.”
The implication behind ‘I’m just like you’, meant that he was a ‘player’ who had been through countless of games – just like them.
Although the others had guessed it, they were still surprised when they heard him say it.
The ‘rules’ stipulated that the team leader was the one who chose their teammates, then they would enter into a ‘game’ together. This mean that, if they didn’t choose it, then players under the same ‘rules’ wouldn’t enter into the same ‘game’ as them at this time.
Qian Zhen went straight to the point, “so, you’re not from the same ‘rules’ as us?”
Yuan Kejie shook her head, “this doesn’t make any sense either. Logically speaking, only one group from each ‘rules’ can enter into the same ‘game’ at the same time. Other players, even if they’re under a different ‘rule’, if there was a person who chose this mission at the same time, they would only be sent to another parallel place. One should know, there’s an infinite amount of other ‘games’ like this.”
This was why everybody could only enter into the same game once, but other people could choose the same task.
When he had heard the world ‘infinite’, Lu Chu looked towards Yuan Kejie. This was a question that he had thought about the moment he heard it – if there were ‘infinite’ amounts of games, and there were also countless of people from each ‘game’, then did that mean that ‘Lu Chu’s existence was also infinite?
Lu Chu didn’t dare to think too deeply about this.
He knew about 7’s identity, but didn’t know what 7 had planned to tell the rest, so he just kept silent and looked at 7. With his mind at peace, he threw away the messy thoughts about the infinite number of ‘him’.
7 didn’t beat around the bush and clearly identified himself, “indeed, I’m from a different ‘rule’ compared to all of you guys. There’s only me left in my current ‘rules’, so I’m trying to find people to do group missions with.”
When Song Gui heard this, he linked it to the ‘game’ that they were in together before, and automatically filled in the details himself. He guessed, “did you go to the same ‘game’ that Lu Xiaochu and I were in to choose teammates from other ‘rules’?”
Song Gui’s guess wasn’t 7’s original intention, but it was what he had decided to do after hearing the question Lu Chu had asked him in the previous game – that was, standing in front of other people, being honest with his identity, seeking the cooperation of others, and openly protecting Lu Chu with the identity of a teammate.
Maybe, together, they would be able to find a way to break free of the ‘rules’ together.
Luo Qi shook her head, “I still haven’t heard that people of two different ‘rules’ can be together in the same ‘game’.”
Of course, just because they hadn’t heard of it, didn’t mean that it didn’t exist.
7 cut to the case, “you’re already convinced of my identity.”
Luo Qi sat down, swung her legs, and her expression was innocent, “whether I believe it or not is one thing, I’m just a little curious.”
Luo Qi and Qian Zhen entered in the ‘rules’ earlier than Song Gui, but for many things, they didn’t know as much as Song Gui did. Yuan Kejie entered after Song Gui, so she knew even lesser things.
Song Gui listen to what 7 said, and once again deduced a couple of things close to the truth. He said, “what Iknow is this; the ‘rules’ and the players actually have a symbiotic relationship. If all the players in a ‘rule’ dies, then this ‘rule’ will also die together with them.”
Luo Qi raised her eyebrow, “why don’t I know? What else are you keeping from us?”
Song Gui gave a helpless shrug, “didn’t I say this before? Once this mission is successful, and when we’re sure that we can continue doing a group mission like this, I’ll tell you what you want to know. Besides, there’s more than twenty survivors in the ‘rules’ that we’re in, so it’s not time to talk about death yet.”
Yuan Kejie heard and added a couple of questions, “so, in the ‘rule’ that you’re in, it chose to preserve you for its own sake, and give you the ability to carry out missions with people from other ‘rules’.”
7 nodded, this was very similar to what had actually happened. He’s already came clean with these people about everything other than the identity of being a ‘cleaner’. As for the reason he didn’t say that, it was to ensure that Lu Chu’s original identity of being an ‘insider’ from the game wasn’t revealed.
Luo Qi was a little excited, and gave a whistle, “it’s like a cross-server battle.”
Song Gui rolled his eyes at her.
Actually, Song Gui did trust Qi Li. He could feel the gap between Qi Li and his fighting ability, and even if all of them went up together, none of them would be Qi Li’s opponent. Thus, if Qi Li wanted to do something against them, he could have done it with pure strength long ago, so why would he need to wait until now, after he had come clean with his identity, thus wasting his breath? This would be an unnecessary move.
After their brief discussion, Lu Chu, as the temporary captain, held his hand out to shake 7’s, “welcome aboard.”
7 held Lu Chu’s hand, and corner of his lips curled up.
Song Gui looked at Lu Chu, as felt as if he had suddenly realised something, but it was too vague for him to get it.
7 let go of Lu Chu’s hand, and said towards the rest, “Qi Li.”
7 chose to use the temporary name ‘Qi Li’. 27, in chinese is Qi (七).in it, and the other was because Song Gui knew this name. One reason was because it had the same ‘qi’
Everyone else also exchanged names with him.
All of them knew fully well that they were no match for Qi Li. At the same time, their team had always been short on people, and even with Lu Chu, they had only just met the bottom-line for group missions – five. Now, if they added in Qi Li with his high combat abilities, then the missions would go much more smoothly.
And thus, 7, with an identity of an outsider, fit into Lu Chu’s team in such a strange manner.
The process was surprisingly harmonious and simple.
That night, they pulled the sheets from the bed and placed them into the living room together, then took turns to keep vigil.
Nothing happened through the night.
When they woke up in the morning, Lu Chu still felt that this was a bit unreal.
Luo Qi and Song Gui, all four of them, weren’t the type of people who would find reasons to doubt themselves after they made a decision. Every single decision that they made would influence their chances of survival, and they’ve carried the consequences that their actions have given them all this time. Therefore, since they’ve made their decision, then they wouldn’t hesitate and be overcautious or indecisive. Even if they knew that Qi Li might still be hiding something from them, but there wouldn’t be a problem as long as it wasn’t something that harmed their mutual interests.
It was just a night, and they had already accepted 7’s identity as their teammate. Yuan Kejie had even started to worried about what would happen if 7 became their regular teammate in the future, and how Qi Li, who belong to a different ‘rule’ would find them.
7 showed that they don’t need to worry about this matter.
Thinking of something, Yuan Kejie looked at the rest and asked, “does anyone half a watch?”
Everybody shook their heads.
“That’s not good for determining the time,” Yuan Kejie said, “since we didn’t have a watch since we exited from the tower, we can only guess the approximate time, and as for how long twenty-four hours will take, we can only judge it using our own feelings.”
Song Gui said, “aren’t you good at these sort of things?”
Yuan Kejie felt helpless, “it isn’t accurate to determine the time by looking at the sun! If we go too late, the game might fail; but if we go too early, we’ll be exposing ourselves in an open area for a long amount of time, what if we’re surrounded by that kind of monster?”
“Then let’s go head on,” Luo Qi said, in an uncaring manner, and sharpened her own shovel. After that, she even placed the grindstone on the table, and asked, “does anybody want to use? If not, I’ll keep it.”
Lu Chu was amused, “I didn’t expect you to carry this around with you.”
7 stood to the side, looked at the patch worked weapons in Lu Chu’s hands, and was thoughtful.
While they were still struggling with the issue of the time, they soon realised, that it was more important to fill their stomachs, compared to the time issue.
They were people who were used to walking the tightrope between life and death, and it would be fine if they went hungry for a meal or two, but being hungry for too long would end up affecting their combat level and reactiveness.
Lu Chu was the first to propose, “we’ve thoroughly searched through this house, and there isn’t any food. We need to go out and have a look.”
7 decided to go alone towards the west to search for food, andconsidering his strength, nobody raised any objections. After the rest discussed for a few moments, they decided to let Luo Qi and Qian Zhen go to the east to search for food together, while Lu Chu, Yuan Kejie, and Song Gui would be responsible for guarding the house, protect their stronghold and receive those who returned.
After the others left, Lu Chu easily packed up the sheets that the rest had used to sleep in.
Song Gui laughed, “it’s okay.”
Lu Chu smiled but didn’t say anything, perhaps that others would see these ‘games’ as mere tasks, but he treated them as his life.
He was originally someone from the inside.
These worlds, which seemed to be constructed and false in the eyes of others were made out of flesh and blood to him, and there were deep feelings and important ties.
