Such a corpse was sitting upright in a chair, with a rope around his neck to prevent his body from falling down, and little sticks in his eyelids to keep his gray and dull eyes open as he carefully observed the meat of his own leg through the microscope.
The chemistry teacher and the laboratory teacher almost fainted.
The tall boys in the back widened their eyes in horror and instinctively stepped back, unable to stand the impact this had on their sense of sight and smell. These students reacted a little faster than the two teachers, and quickly returned to their senses, calling the teachers who were still shocked as they quickly pulled them away from the scene. Then, they asked them to take out their phones to call the police.
The boys that Lu Chu and the rest asked were the witnesses.
They told Lu Chu and the rest in detail about what happened at that time, which everybody adding in specifics that they remembered. By the time they finished speaking, all of them were somewhat in a trance, and broke out in a cold sweat. There was no need to mention the current state of Zhang Cheng and Qian Wenhao, who were listening closely.
After Zhang Cheng heard everything, he felt sick, and grabbed onto Qian Wenhao’s arm tightly. Qian Wenhao himself was extremely frightened, and didn’t even feel that red mark that Zhang Cheng had left on him.
Although Lu Chu didn’t see the scene, but he could come up with that creepy and bloody image as long as he thought about it. It was easy to understand why the expressions on those first year students were very bad – they would probably be stuck in this nightmare for some time.
Once Lu Chu learned what he wanted to know, he politely thanked the few students, then patted Zhang Cheng and Qian Wenhao who were still in a daze to get them to wake up.
Zhang Cheng shivered, and his words were difficult to understand, “say, such a death…… how big a grudge must this be?”
Lu Chu shook his head, showing that he didn’t know, then said to the other three, “don’t think so much about it, let’s go back to class first.”
“Go back, go back!” Qian Wenhao, who hadn’t spoken since he left the classroom, suddenly yelled as if someone that flipped his switch, startling the rest of them, causing Lu Chu and the others to all look at him.
Qian Wenhao reacted, and said, embarrassed, “I mean, let’s go back quickly. Everybody in class knows each other, and I feel more secure there……”
It seems that he had really gotten scared.
“So timid, yet you wanted to come out and investigate this situation with us.” Zhang Cheng teased him like usual, in an attempt to ease the atmosphere.
Qian Wenhao didn’t refute him, and immediately admitted, “yes, I suddenly realised that I’m extremely timid. Let’s go back quickly.”
Zhang Cheng didn’t talk back to him like usual, and they quickly returned to class, with everybody in class turning their curious eyes on them.
After Zhang Cheng returned to his seat, Li Lan quickly grabbed him and asked what they had went to do just now.
Zhang Cheng shook his head, and didn’t really want to tell her what had happened.
The fact that he was like this made Li Lan want to know even more, so she kept pestering him to talk, and Zhang Cheng finally conceded defeat, “I’m saying this in advance, this is a bit scary, and you’re the one who told me to tell you.”
Li Lan quickly raised her hand and swore, “it’s me who forced you to tell me! Come on, tell me quickly, stop leaving me hanging! The old donkey just said that and left, without telling everybody what was going on, leaving everyone to feel at a loss. Whether it’s scary or not, at least I have to know what happened. The most frightening thing is not understanding anything at all!”
What she said was right. Instead of choosing to hide this matter because it was too weird, it was better to say what happened directly, as leaving everybody to guess about what happened would be scarier.
Zhang Cheng sighed, organised the words he was going to say in his heart. In this process, he was once again shocked by the scene that those students had described just now, and he rubbed the goose bumps on his arm, before telling Li Lan in simple terms what had happened.
They were sitting in the first row, and their classmates behind and next to them had overheard their conversation. All of them leaned over, perked up their ears, and quietly listened to their talk.
Instantly, after Zhang Cheng finished, the people around him became quiet.
At the same time, Qian Wenhao was also asked by the people around him what he had learnt when he went out just know.
Slowly, what happened on the top floor of the laboratory building slowly circulated through the class of 2-1, and silence spread through the class like an infectious disease, as the originally terrified and fearful atmosphere was replaced by a strange and long stillness.
On the other side, Lu Chu, who returned to his seat quickly settled down and started to analyse his current situation.
“Lu Chu…” Suddenly, Liu Yang’s pitiful voice sounded in his ears.
Lu Chu looked at him, “en? What’s the matter?”
Liu Yang pointed to Zhang Cheng and Qian Wenhao and said, “what news did you guys get? I think the atmosphere over there is a little strange……”
Lu Chu followed his gaze, then sighed, the people around him also gathered around, and looked at him with curious eyes, so he also told the people around him in simplified terms about what he had heard from the first year students.
He had deliberately omitted many details, but everybody who listened to him still broke out into cold sweat.
Liu Yang moved his chair and leaned against Lu Chu, then swallowed, “do you think that the murderer is really in our school?”
Lu Chu nodded, “probably. Perhaps this murderer sneaked into our school, or perhaps – this murderer was from our school all along.”
When Lu Chu said the latter, his gaze flittered towards Zheng Wei’s position without making it obvious.
Another perfect alibi. In any case, Zheng Wei didn’t have the time to commit this crime. Lu Chu tried to think of it in a different manner, and perhaps the murderer really wasn’t Zheng Wei, only, Zheng Wei would definitely know something.
The last victim had died in the washroom, where there were people coming and going. The scents were very messy, and it was next to the toilet, therefore, Lu Chu couldn’t tell through his sense of smell if the scent that Zheng Wei had on him, which also appeared in 604, was there. But the laboratory building would different, the laboratory building itself was in the most remote place on campus. When nobody was performing any experiments, almost nobody would go there. As for the blocked top floor, over the years, unless there was something extremely important, nobody would go there. Other than the smell of dust and the smell of the teachers and students who had witnessed the incident, there wouldn’t be any other scent, and Lu Chu felt that he might find something there.
It seemed like he had to find a chance to go to the top floor of the laboratory building as soon as possible, and he also had to find a way to avoid being treated as somebody suspicious by the school and police officers on guard.
Liu Yang patted Lu Chu’s shoulder, “Lu Chu…… Lu Chu……”
Lu Chu returned to his senses, “what’s the matter?”
Liu Yang had a glum expression and shook his head, “look at you, in such a daze. Are you scared too? To the point your mind started to wander.”
Lu Chu didn’t deny it.
Liu Yang stretched his arms out and laid on the table, and said indignantly, “my mind’s going to start wandering too, not only that, my soul’s going to be so scared it’ll scatter into pieces!”
At this time, Liu Yang noticed that the shoulders of the female classmate in front of them was shaking, like she was crying.
Liu Yang poked her, “Wei Lili, Wei Lili, what’s the matter?”
Wei Lili turned around. Her face was damp and her eyes were red. Her voice trembled, “I’m…… I’m scared……”
Liu Yang seldom saw girls cry, and was suddenly at a loss as he stammered and tried to comfort her, “you…… don’t cry, we…… aren’t we…… all okay!”
Wei Lili wiped her face, and said between her gasps, “only, I only just went to a high school, just want to study hard to take a test, and get into a university, but how did it become like this……”
Lu Chu handed her a piece of paper, and with a gentle and comforting look, said, “don’t worry. Just now, Teacher Lu said that the school suspected that the murderer was a member of the school, and asked us to stay in school in the afternoon and wait to be questioned. Everybody just has to try to stay together as much as possible from now on, and go to eat lunch at the cafeteria at noon while waiting for the investigation and questioning in the afternoon to be over. If there’s no problem, the school will definitely let us go home. Such a big thing has happened, so the school will definitely try their best to find the murderer as soon as possible.”
Wei Lili took that paper that Lu Chu handed to her, wiped her face, and tried her best to smile, but because she was too worried and afraid, her smile became somewhat forceful, “I don’t think I want to eat later……”
“Just eat a little bit,” Lu Chu gave a gentle smile, “why don’t you lie down for a while, and try to adjust your mood. During lunch, we’ll call you again. Everybody’s here, don’t be scared.”
Wei Lili nodded, “okay, thank you, I’ll rest for a while.”
“En, no problem, we’re all classmates.”
Wei Lili turned back, wiped her face, before lying down on the table and closed her eyes to rest. When her tablemate saw this, she also laid down, and tried to adjust her somewhat panicked mood.
Liu Yang patted Lu Chu’s shoulder, gave him a thumbs up, “bro, very reliable.”
Lu Chu smiled, and didn’t answer. Perhaps, this might be considered an occupational disease from when he was an online counsellor.
Half a lesson went by, and there wasn’t any teacher who entered the class. The whole class was silent, and there was only the occasional conversation. Nobody dared to speak out loud, as if they were afraid of disturbing something.
Liu Yang lowered his voice, and kept looking for topics to talk with Lu Chu about. Lu Chu could tell that he wanted to focus on something else, so he continued along with the topics.
As they talked, Liu Yang wanted to move his chair towards Lu Chu again, until the point he could lean on Lu Chu – only then could he have a sense of security. So, in his chair, he raised his hips and his hands started to move the chair towards the side. The wooden chair rubbed against the ground made a shrill sound, but didn’t move at all. After doing this several times, Lu Chu casted a puzzled look at him. He became slightly embarrassed, and gave up the idea of getting close to Lu Chu. Liu Yang touched his nose awkwardly and said, “it’s nothing, nothing, I’m just trying to deal with the stress.”
7 opened his textbook calmly and started to read, and at the same time, took the foot he had on Liu Yang’s chair back.
